This is a single cutaway design with a five piece through the body neck. The body is Honduran Mahogany as is the 5 piece neck laminated with Maple. The top is a wonderful 5A Grade piece of Quilted Maple with a Gold Burst finish. The neck and headstock are bound with three piece Maple/Ebony this time to match the fretboard. The fretboard is Ebony that extends to the headstock face and truss rod cover.
This is a neck through design that is cleanly and expertly done. It is a 5 piece laminate of Maple and Mahogany this time that adds stiffness and beauty. The neck through design also attributes to the instruments sustain and clarity. This instrument is very well suited for players of different styles. It has a singular creamy tone when pushed to the limit.
The fretboard has a subtle Flame Inlay motif of Abalone. The Ebony on the headstock is left sanded to a 600 grit level and then oiled to closely match the color of the fretboard. The result is a flawless soft matt feel that closely matches the natural Ebony on the fretboard. The guitar is equipped with Chromed Tone Pros bridge and tail as well as Grover tuners. The pickups are a pair of Dimarzio’s with a Custom PAF-DP195 in the neck position wired series/parallel and a F spaced Air Zone - DP192 in the bridge in series. This is a great set of pickups for a 24 fret guitar at stage volumes, very touch sensitive and articulate. It has lots of balls but doesn’t color the wood’s tonal character.
The control knobs are natural wood bells made from the same Maple recessed into the top with a three position pickup selector and phase switch. The over all finish work of this instrument is without equal, as I have come to expect from all New Orleans Guitars.
